As usual in this period, the three magi are portrayed as crowned and richly dressed kings – one old, one young, and one middle-aged. They wear spurs, having come on horses, not camels.
In a collapse of time that is typical for the Pomposa Frescos, the middle king is pointing to the guiding star while the first king is already on his knees worshiping the Child and the angel above left warns the sleeping kings to return home by a different way.
